Melissa Gannage, MD

Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist

Dr Gannage is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and subsequently attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. She completed her residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin, Department of Psychiatry, in 2013. She is proud to be a triple Badger!

Previous to joining Edelweiss Behavioral Health, Dr Gannage had experience working with both Marshfield Clinic, as well as the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where she was a Clinical Associate Professor and spent more than a decade treating patients and training medical students and resident physicians.

First and foremost, Dr Gannage strives to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. She offers both medication management and individual therapeutic interventions to her patients, tailored to the needs of the individual and the chapter of life they are in. She strongly believes there are multiple facets to mental wellness - while medications can be an important part of a patient's healing, interventions from therapy, nutrition, self-care, social connection and personal purpose can be just as important. She also carefully considers psychiatric diagnoses, feeling it important to make a correct diagnosis so patients receive the best treatment - even if this requires some extra time with her patients or further assessment.

Dr Gannage wishes to remain up to date not only on the newest interventions in psychiatry, but also in approaches that compliment standard treatments. She recognizes that typical medical treatments have much to offer patients, but they sometimes fall short in some important areas. She has long been interested in the role that integrative medicine offers in filling those gaps, when backed by research and thoughtfully paired with traditional psychiatric therapies. She has spent time gaining extra training in these approaches, which range from nutritional optimization, to mind-body practices, to herbal/supplement support, and more.

Her specific areas of interest are perinatal mental health (patients who are considering becoming pregnant, who are pregnant, or who are in the postpartum year) as well as patients who are in the perimenopause/menopause transition. As noted above, she also has an interest in integrative approaches to mental health. She looks forward to meeting you and working together in the future!
